The truth about artificial flavours
'Natural flavours' sounds clean. But under food labelling rules, a natural flavour can be derived from almost anything — as long as the starting material came from nature. The processing it goes through can be extensive. 'Artificial flavours' are synthesized in a lab to mimic natural taste compounds. They're chemically similar to their natural counterparts but are produced rather than extracted. Neither is inherently dangerous. But both are often used to mask low-quality ingredients or create a taste that the raw product can't deliver on its own. We took a different approach. Our cocoa formulas use real cocoa powder — not 'natural chocolate flavour'. Our unflavoured formula has no flavouring at all. When we sweeten, we use stevia leaf extract, not sucralose or aspartame. The result is a protein that tastes like what's in it. If you want chocolate, you get chocolate. If you want nothing, you get nothing. No mystery aftertaste, no ingredient list you need a chemistry degree to read. It costs more to make it this way. We think it's worth it.
