Whey isolate vs concentrate: what's the difference?
Weprotein Team · 29/09/2026

Whey concentrate and whey isolate both come from the same source: milk. The difference is how much processing happens after.
Whey protein concentrate is the less processed of the two. It's typically 70–80% protein by weight, with the remainder being lactose, fat, and minerals. It's cost-effective, mixes well, and retains more of the naturally occurring beneficial compounds found in dairy.
Whey protein isolate goes through an additional filtration step that removes more of the lactose and fat, pushing the protein content to 90% or higher. The result is a purer protein with fewer calories from non-protein sources, and less lactose — which matters if you're sensitive to it.
Which should you choose? If you're counting macros closely, managing lactose intake, or in a cutting phase, isolate gives you more protein per calorie. If you want a solid daily protein at a better price and you tolerate dairy fine, concentrate is excellent.
We make both — Formula C is our concentrate, Formula I is our isolate. Same testing, same transparency, different protein density.
